towards a non-authoritarian world

I like reading comments under news and opinion columns and pretty much everything (how about you?)

The one below appear to be about politics but the problem exceeds far beyond the borders of the United States or the upcoming elections. I mean, I do agree that there is a great percentage of people with authoritarian tendencies, including myself. True, it includes myself, even though I have strong feelings against people who believe in an hierarchy among ourselves, and among other living species.

"Modern world not withstanding, human psychological strait has not evolved as fast, and the percentage of us with authoritarian personality today is likely no different from that thousands of years ago. Reading the GOP platform, we know that the US isn't that far from the Third Reich." http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/21/opinion/krugman-disdain-for-workers.html?_r=0

What makes people grow authoritarian personalities? How should a person treated like an inferior existence should behave against such a personality?  What are we missing in the systematic education?

How could we keep  Martin Luther King Jr. or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi alive?

What do you think?
